Throwing a fun holiday party doesn’t have to be stressful.
Every room in your home should reflect you. Your rooms should be functional enough to take on your beautifully chaotic and wonderfully messy everyday - as well as flexible enough to cater to future plans - like a family. Each month we’ll be highlighting a different room in the home and providing tips and tricks to help ensure your home is the best reflection of...you! As we hustle through December, let’s celebrate the year’s good tidings with loved ones and a holiday party suited just for you.
Here are a few tips to help you figure out your holiday gathering plans and ensure a stress free holiday party.
TIP 1: Figure out the basics (type of party, who you’re going to invite, etc.)
What type of vibe are you going for? Elegant sit-down dinner? Casual cocktail party? A buffet bonanza? Once the direction of your party is established, everything else can fall into place!
Us? We like to keep it casual and encourage our guests to bring side dishes while we prepare the main and drinks.
Don’t forget to take a moment invite your friends + family! We prefer to keep things simple, and stick with e-vites (ie. Facebook Events, Evites, etc.).
TIP 2: Figure out food + drinks
There are a zillion and one recipes out there on the internet that, when throwing a party, you want to serve. Take a deep breath. Click out of Pinterest for a second. Keep these numbers in mind:
- 1 Main
- 2-3 Sides
- 1 Dessert
- 1 Signature Drink
We like to start with the main dish first, and adjust our appetizers and sides accordingly. For example:
- Main: Brandied Ham
- Sides: Roasted Vegetables, Potato Gratin, Green Bean Casserole
- Dessert: Chocolate Cake
- Signature Drink: Gin + Tonic
- FUN FACT: Gin is distilled with a variety of botanicals including Juniper!
TIP 4: Figure out decor + ambiance
This ties in with your first decision, what type of vibe are you going for? Elegant and luxurious? Cozy and relaxed? Cool and modern? An easy way to figure this out is to work with your current decor scheme. Concentrate on larger pieces of furniture or statement items and decorate those pieces (ie. We love a simple garland over the mantleplace and our tree decorated with some DIY ornaments!).
TIP 5: Prep ahead of time
List out what you need to do to make your party happen, and get it done! Start simply and hone in on the details.
Our list ends up looking like this:
- Gather ingredients for ham
- Gather ingredients for drinks
- Cleaning (This is where a DIY All Purpose Spray will come in handy)
- Bathrooms (remember to stash extra toilet paper and DIY air freshener!)
- Living Room
- Dining Room
