Ever been told to “shine bright”?
Ever replied with “I already do”?
Babes. We totally get it. Oily skin solidarity.
That midday blotting. The thin, but obvious layer of oil on your phone screen after a conversation - we understand all too well. Thankfully, we have a few simple tips that will help keep the oil on your face at a minimum and help the shine you WANT to come through.
Definitely Do Daily
Your skin is a reflection of who you are - from the inside, out. Ensure daily balanced oil production with vitamins that work with your body to regulate, balance, and control.
A couple of our favorites:
- Vitamin A: A powerhouse ingredient which helps the moderation of oily skin. It also aids in the maintenance and strengthening of your skin’s protective tissues.
- Vitamin C: A skin beautifier and antioxidant. It neutralizes free radicals responsible for dull skin, produces collagen, and protects your immune system.
Gently refresh your skin in the AM and PM to ensure the grime / makeup from the day is gone. Your face shouldn’t feel dry or tight after cleansing; If this is the case, your cleanser might be too harsh, causing your skin to overreact and trigger your sebaceous glands to produce more fat / oils to compensate for what was lost.
Your cleanser SHOULD be:
After cleansing, your skin should be perfectly primed to receive moisture. It is vital you don’t skip this step, especially if you have oily skin (we don’t want our skin to overproduce any additional oils we don’t need). Now, remember the vitamin recommendations? These are internal (inside, out). But when you moisturize, you need to take care of your skin topically (outside, in).
Moisturize with products that are rich in:
Plant botanicals, and
Nourishing carboxylic acids.
Definitely Do Weekly
Face masks are amazing tools to promote a good, deep cleanse. However, we don’t recommend daily usage, as this would be way too harsh on your skin. Weekly, though? Yes. Refresh your complexion with a deep cleanse using a mask once a week to help your skin regulate its oil production and maintenance.
DIY your own face mask with ingredients that are:
Definitely Do Monthly (specifically, every 3 months):
Before making these updates to your routine, snap a selfie! A non-makeup-insta-filtered selfie. This will mark the beginning of your skincare journey and will help you see the improvement over time from these small, but impactful tips.
Every 3 months or so, snap another selfie and examine the following:
Is your skin still feeling extremely oily after cleansing?
What does your skin feel like after moisturizing?
Has your acne improved / gotten worse?
Overall, how does your skin look? Dull or dry? What about shiny?
With each examination, ask yourself what you could improve upon to get to the skin type you desire. Make small adjustments based on your answers, and your skin will be glowing in no time!
