We all want what’s best for our families. We all like nice things.
It’s strange how often those two things are mutually exclusive. Why can’t nice things be the best things for our families?
Creating non-toxic luxury
It turns out, removing these chemicals and going against the norm is quite the challenge. Companies don’t want the cost or hassle. Manufacturers simply don’t do it, or, more commonly, don’t know how.
YOR Health found a need in the marketplace for body care products that were completely plant-based, toxin-free, and made with synthetic-free ingredients.
Replacing the Harsh Chemicals
Here are three very common, very recognizable ingredients that we knew we just had to replace with a natural, safer alternative.
You might be more familiar with them than you think.
SLS - Sodium Lauryl/laureth sulfate
Sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate is a harsh surfactant found in almost all conventional industrial cleaners, cosmetics, shampoos, toothpastes, body washes, hand soaps, laundry detergents, and much more. The Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) Skin Deep Cosmetics Database rates it as a moderate hazard, and it has links to organ toxicity, eye and skin irritation, reproductive toxicity, endocrine disruption, and possible cellular mutations that may lead to cancer and more.
When benzoic acid--which occurs naturally in some fruits and spices--is combined with sodium hydroxide, the resulting chemical is a dissolvable preservative. It’s used in cosmetics, soda drinks, salad dressings, shampoos, lotions, and much more.
While more natural versions on this chemical do exist, they are very rarely used. Sodium benzoate is also suspect in helping to cause behavioral issues in children, especially when combined with other food additives.
Harmful Parabens & Phthalates
Parabens are another commonly-used preservative, and have been suspected of increasing breast cancer risk due to the fact that they mimic the female hormone estrogen. Phthalates are used to make plastics more flexible. The are also known endocrine disruptors and are linked to adult male reproductive problems and birth defects in the reproductive system of infant boys.
Purity + Luxury = Bare Living
Your shampoos, conditioners, body washes, and lotions shouldn’t be harmful or scary. We wanted to combine luxury and purity and show people that the nicest things can also be the best things for your family. We might not be able to change the world overnight, but we can help you limit-- or possibly eliminate-- your exposure to harmful chemicals in your everyday body care products.
