To those who are on the forever hunt for some lasting moisture - this one’s for you!
Knees and elbows, the parts of our body which seem to dry easily and crave more moisture than we’re able to give. You know what we mean? We’re talking about the 10 minutes after you lotion yourself up for the day and you find your knees + elbows are still dry.
This situation is all too common and let us tell you: we’ve been there. Luckily, we’ve also found a really convenient, handy workaround that ensures our typically overlooked dry areas (and the rest of our body) stay moisturized.
Your Favorite Facial Serum + Your Favorite Body Lotion
We’re lucky enough to have found a facial serum that works for us and our facial needs. It’s made up of powerful ingredients that are meant to moisturize and support healthy youthful looking skin. We rave about it all the time (for reference: here, and here). It’s magical!
Our body lotion is also fantastic and feel-beautiful, it smells delicious is made from plant-based ingredients and is created free from any gross filler ingredients (for reference: this post is solid).
These two items are wonderful to use separately, but a couple weeks of chance product layering has us convinced that together, they’re a powerful pair.
Here’s How We Stumbled Upon This Pair
This was a tip from one of super talented and all around amazing Spanish translators (did you know we’re available to read in Spanish?), Flor!
She shared with us how after cleansing and moisturizing with Live Bare Amber, her hands would have some leftover serum. This thin layer of leftover serum would stay on her hands as she continued onto her body care routine (body lotion). The result? A completely different feeling overall throughout the day - especially on her normally dry hands.
We know the dry skin struggle and decided to try it out for ourselves and were surprised by how easy it was. In fact, it made the transition from facial care routine to body care routine a total no-brainer.
Here’s How We Do It
To build upon Flor’s experience and distribute moisture to the typically overlooked dry areas, and take a spot-treatment approach to our dry areas, we started by adding 3-4 drops of serum to our hands, rubbing them together to activate the phytonutrients and gently applying this to our knees and elbows. This provides the aide necessary to penetrate the already dry skin, help heal any damaged cells, and lock your natural moisture in. Then we apply our lotion along the rest of our body.
We tried this approach out for 1 month and can happily say that our knees + elbows seem to retain moisture much better and the dry, scaly feeling we once had from them is gone!
Here’s Why This Works: The Approach & The Products
We attribute the success of this pairing to the application approach used as well as the quality of products used. The spot-treatment approach we took was modified from years of struggling with acne and uneven skin. The idea behind it is to apply the product (or in this case, our serum) directly onto the problem areas so these areas are absorbing the full benefits of the treatment.
The products we used are full of ingredients which specifically moisturize and encourage healthy cellular growth. Including the following ingredients:
- Shea Oil: A non-comedogenic, anti-inflammatory oil composed of essential fatty acids which rejuvenate, moisturize, and heal skin.
- Sea Buckthorn Oil: A deeply-nourishing oil that contains Omegas -3, -6, -9, and the rare Omega-7. Promotes skin hydration, elasticity, and skin regeneration.
- Jasmine: A oil which promotes skin elasticity, increases cellular renewal, helps fade scars, and promotes moisture balance.
- Tamanu Oil: Derived from the large, blonde nuts of the Ati Tree, this oil has been used for centuries as a cure-all for skin conditions and is known for its remarkable healing powers and pain-soothing abilities.
